9.19.01 Arnold Speaks Out on the Tonight Show
Even though he no longer has a movie to promote right now due to the delay of Collateral Damage, Arnold was happy to appear on Jay Leno tonight on short notice. Jay called Arnold because he wanted someone who could cheer America up and make them feel good and Arnold fit the bill. The Oak certainly raised everyone's spirits when he came out waving a huge American flag. The first thing he said was that he was never more proud to be an American than in the last 8 days.
When commenting on the firemen, police officers, and others who came to help, he said, "I play action heroes... but these people are the real action heroes, there's no two ways about that." Leno later asked where Arnold was when he heard the news, and he replied that he was snuggling with his kids in bed, which is a daily morning routine in his home, when Maria got a call from CBS that they needed her to come cover the attack and a story on how to talk to your children. Then he turned on the TV and watched it unfold. With his kids, he said it's important to not let them watch TV too much, because they might not understand what is happening now and what is a replay, causing them to think it's much worse.
He also communicatied with them to tell them that this is a time for tolerance and not to think of revenge right away, but take the time to find out who did this. Also, let them do something to help, like a lemonade stand to raise money. Arnold personally called Mayor Guliani and Governor Potaki to offer his help and learned about the Twin Towers Fund (877-870-4278), created by the mayor to send money directly to the victims' families.

"I think this is a time where all of us have to think 'What can we all do?' Every night we have to go to bed and ask 'Did we do enough to help those families?' I think that's what being an American means."
He went on further to say, "I hope we learn from this that there are so many issues in America that are American issues and we have to put politics aside, work together, take the best ideas from the Democrats and the best ideas from the Republicans, and get all of those things accomplished"

Obviously, there was more serious talk than the usual Jay Leno interview, but the Oak still had a couple jokes up his sleeve. When talking about first coming to America in 1968, he said he realized America really was the land of opportunity, "All you do is come here and marry a Kennedy since there are plenty around. It can happen to anyone, not just me!" When he got his first role in Hercules in New York, he called all his friends and told them to come here because you get off the boat they ask you to star in a movie. "Of course, I didn't get a job for 8 years after that!" he added.

Speaking more on America, he said of his becoming a citizen in 1983, "It was one of the greatest moment of my life because it was a dream come true." He studied everything about America's history, government, and economy, and remains in a constant state of learning. He also explained about the postponment of Collateral Damage in which he plays a firefighter whose family is killed in a terrorist attack. He said as soon as he heard the news, he called Warner Bros. and scheduled a meeting to discuss it because he thought it should be postponed. The producers and studio executives agreed with him and decided to postpone it indefinitely because "This is a time where we should just think about one thing- what has happened in New York and Washington...and what we can do to help. The movie is far behind those things. Eventually the time will come when the time is right, and I think the audience and the fans will tell us when that time is."

Finally, Jay asked Arnold to sign his Harley, which Jay is going to auction off to raise money for the relief effort, and Arnold of course obliged. It was certainly a great interview with many inspiring and emotional words from Arnold mixed in with some much needed laughs. For those who missed it, here is the entire interview in Real Audio format:

Arnold is certainly making the media rounds now to help raise the country's spirit and encourage people to help contribute. On Access Hollywood, he covered some of the same things he did on Leno, but expanding on what he said to his kids that there are a very small percentage of evil people in the world, but that good will always win over evil. It couldn't have been said better! To see the 5 minute segment for yourself, click on the link or the picture to the left, and tune in for the rest tonight!

10.29.01 New Arnold Movie on Video!

Arnold's cameo!
(Quicktime MOV 2 MB)
Well... sort of! Those of you who didn't see the Eddie Murphy comedy Dr. Dolittle 2 might be surprised to learn that Arnold is in it (I know I was). It is uncredited, but he is the voice of the male White Wolf in a very brief but quite amusing scene where he marks his territory to get his female back. Later on, he even utters his famous phrase from T2, "Hasta la vista, baby!" This "marks" the first time Arnold has done any kind of cameo since Dave in 1993. So go rent DR.2 and check out da White Wolf-- and I have provided the scenes in quicktime format for your convenience.
